NightLight Designs App

Elevating Awareness and Empowerment for Women Who Escaped Sexual Trafficking

This project addresses the critical issue of human trafficking and sexual exploitation by introducing NightLight Designs, an app created for NightLight Collection. This platform empowers and provides opportunities to previously exploited women through the creation and sale of handcrafted jewelry. NightLight Designs not only supports the sale of these unique pieces but also raises awareness about sexual trafficking, amplifying the mission of its partner organization, NightLight International, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting survivors. The app prioritizes accessibility, empowerment, and meaningful support for all users and beneficiaries.

The app is designed to become a prominent platform for jewelry sales, featuring intuitive navigation that enables users to seamlessly shop, learn about the mission, and contribute financially. Jewelry and art sales are pivotal to the initiative, as they generate funds and provide sustainable employment for the women artisans.

The Project

Key Objectives

  1. Showcasing the Jewelry and Art of NightLight Designs

  2. Driving Conversations Through Creation and Sale

  3. Innovating Support and Employment for Survivors

  4. Redefining User Experience Through App Navigation

The Goal

The NightLight Designs app aims to connect commerce, advocacy, and direct aid, empowering users to contribute meaningfully while uplifting survivors.

By focusing on design and functionality, this app turns NightLight’s mission into a movement— one purchase, one conversation, and one life saved at a time.

Why NightLight Designs?

I find the concept of offering a tangible product, rather than just asking for monetary donations, especially powerful because it reaches a broader audience and provides sustainable aid for survivors. This approach allows donors to engage in a meaningful way, supporting the cause while receiving something valuable in return.

For these reasons, I chose to create NightLight Designs for my app. The app aims to become a well-known platform for purchasing jewelry, making it easy for users to not only shop but also learn about NightLight’s mission and contribute to the cause.

App Breakdown:

  • The launch page, where a hamburger menu in the upper right corner can be opened to view all pages.

  • Tapping the hamburger menu opens the main navigation panel, which includes options such as User Profile (ex. Linda Adams), Shop, Favorites, Cart, About, Donate, and Stories.

  • Under the User Profile, accessed by clicking on the user’s profile picture or name, “My orders,” “My reviews,” and “Settings” are all accessible.

  • In the pop-up menu, “Shop” can be extended into a dropdown menu that divides the shopping options into collections, products, features, and coming soon. In this section, the Arcadia collection is featured and built out for this app prototype.

  • Accessing the “Favorites” page allows the user to view their favorited items, where they can then move them to their cart, or delete them. Both features are available for the demo.

  • The “Cart” page offers a purchase example, as well as an additional feature: a discreet way to seek help. By typing “HELP” into the promo code section, individuals in need can quickly, confidentially, and discretely alert authorities and request aid. A demo of this can be seen by clicking on the promo code bar.

  • The “About” page provides an overview of NightLight Designs, including their vision, mission, and core values. It also offers details about their offices in Bangkok and Missouri.

  • The “Donate” page offers three donation options: funds, supplies, or time. In the funds section, a key feature is a drop-down menu titled “Program,” which allows donors to select a specific program to direct their contribution. This feature was incorporated to provide transparency, ensuring donors know exactly how their money is being used. The supplies section includes a form to connect potential donors with the organization, while the time section provides details on volunteering opportunities and links to the signup page.

  • The “Stories” page features four survivor narratives, sharing their experiences and how NightLight has positively impacted their lives.
